Energy For An Active Life.
As a committed foodie, holistic health counselor, cyclist and yoga teacher, I found it necessary throughout my adult years to design my own foods for a higher purpose. When I think of my diet I associate it directly with my health and well being. I don’t compromise flavor for natural ingredients, I utilize the finest natural ingredients to create amazing and health promoting meals.
Again, out of necessity, I began my adventures in designing nutrient rich energy foods for my own cycling, jogging, hiking, and city trekking adventures. As a student of health and fitness, I always took my bike commuting seriously and often covered between 60-80 miles per week going to and from university grounds and then joy riding around between classes and on the weekends. I needed compact, convenient, delicious snack foods that would fuel me all day without leaving me feeling tired and drained, or require intense digestive processes.
I couldn’t find the snacks I was looking for that didn’t have some form of sweet, refined carbohydrate like white sugar, syrup, honey, or agave nectar. Every nut and fruit based product on the market seemed to be soaked in sugar. No thanks, I prefer less sugar and more nutrients.
As a yoga teacher and fitness coach I knew the best thing for my energy requirement was to eat plant based nutrients and protein rich foods. I would often grab nuts and fruit for my sustenance but I became bored with the simplicity of the snacks and desired more fun and exotic flavors for my daily journeys.
I began to make mostly hand crafted chocolate based snacks, chock full of nuts and dried fruit as the sweetener. I wanted to avoid use of added sugars and other refined carbs to fuel my active life.
As a long time granola maker I already had batches of oats and nuts continuously in production since granola was always a daily meal. I decided to combine the granola with my chocolate concoctions and make a hearty bars and fantastically delicious and nutritious cookies. I began to add oats for fiber and more dried fruits for nutrients. My snacks became small, fuel filled meals that covered all the bases in minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, protein, and with plenty of spice and fat to make it irresistible.
Inspired by flavor I went on to create a variety of snacks and they all became my favorite. I gave them away in mass amounts and people really enjoyed the quality and taste. So my intent is to provide an alternative to sugary, sweet bars and granola and offer nourishing decadence with a healthy dose of pure energy.
